If so, what exactly changes? Do women become less effective professionally after having a child, or do they develop new competencies that strengthen their leadership role?  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These questions have long appeared in discussions about the labor market and in daily organizational decision-making. Many stereotypes and concerns\u2014often unspoken\u2014still surround women of childbearing age. Meanwhile, a study conducted by Agata Ko\u0142ody\u0144ska in 2019 shows a much more complex picture of motherhood and its impact on women in managerial roles.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The study was conducted as part of a Master&#8217;s thesis titled &#8220;The Impact of Motherhood on Management Style&#8221; <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;The Impact of Motherhood on Management Style&#8221;<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the Zbigniew N\u0119cki Doctoral School at the Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow University.    <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-1 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-two\" style=\"--awb-margin-top:2rem;--awb-margin-bottom:1rem;--awb-margin-top-small:10px;--awb-margin-right-small:0px;--awb-margin-bottom-small:10px;--awb-margin-left-small:0px;--awb-font-size:var(--awb-typography3-font-size);\"><h2 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left fusion-responsive-typography-calculated\" style=\"font-family:var(--awb-typography3-font-family);font-weight:var(--awb-typography3-font-weight);font-style:var(--awb-typography3-font-style);margin:0;letter-spacing:var(--awb-typography3-letter-spacing);text-transform:var(--awb-typography3-text-transform);font-size:1em;--fontSize:24;line-height:var(--awb-typography3-line-height);\">About the Study<\/h2><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2 fusion-text-no-margin\" style=\"--awb-text-transform:none;--awb-margin-top:1rem;--awb-margin-right:0px;--awb-margin-bottom:0px;--awb-margin-left:0px;\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The study involved 30 women in managerial positions, managing teams ranging from 2 to 40 people. Half of the group consisted of mothers, and the other half were managers without children. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The author used both quantitative and qualitative methods, including: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>The Life Attitudes Questionnaire (KP\u017b)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, measuring sense of meaning in life, control, and internal consistency. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The People Management Styles Inventory<\/span><\/b>, diagnosing leadership style<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In-depth interviews with selected participants.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-2 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-two\" style=\"--awb-margin-top:2rem;--awb-margin-bottom:1rem;--awb-margin-top-small:10px;--awb-margin-right-small:0px;--awb-margin-bottom-small:10px;--awb-margin-left-small:0px;--awb-font-size:var(--awb-typography3-font-size);\"><h2 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left fusion-responsive-typography-calculated\" style=\"font-family:var(--awb-typography3-font-family);font-weight:var(--awb-typography3-font-weight);font-style:var(--awb-typography3-font-style);margin:0;letter-spacing:var(--awb-typography3-letter-spacing);text-transform:var(--awb-typography3-text-transform);font-size:1em;--fontSize:24;line-height:var(--awb-typography3-line-height);\">What changes after having a baby?<\/h2><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-3 fusion-text-no-margin\" style=\"--awb-text-transform:none;--awb-margin-top:1rem;--awb-margin-right:0px;--awb-margin-bottom:0px;--awb-margin-left:0px;\"><p>One of the most interesting findings of the study was that women with children exhibited a higher prevalence of the management style described in the WERK tool as<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cCaptain\u201d<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This style is associated with, among other things:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">responsibility,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">effectiveness,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">goal orientation,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">good work organization<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the ability to manage people and priorities.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the same time, after giving birth, the intensity of the <b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cRevolutionary&#8221;<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">style \u2014associated with greater impulsivity, experimentation, and a tendency toward constant change\u2014decreased. The female managers in the study tended to function in a more organized and predictable manner after becoming mothers. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Does this mean that motherhood changes the way people work? The results suggest that it does\u2014but not necessarily in a way that reduces efficiency. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-3 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-two\" style=\"--awb-margin-top:2rem;--awb-margin-bottom:1rem;--awb-margin-top-small:10px;--awb-margin-right-small:0px;--awb-margin-bottom-small:10px;--awb-margin-left-small:0px;--awb-font-size:var(--awb-typography3-font-size);\"><h2 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left fusion-responsive-typography-calculated\" style=\"font-family:var(--awb-typography3-font-family);font-weight:var(--awb-typography3-font-weight);font-style:var(--awb-typography3-font-style);margin:0;letter-spacing:var(--awb-typography3-letter-spacing);text-transform:var(--awb-typography3-text-transform);font-size:1em;--fontSize:24;line-height:var(--awb-typography3-line-height);\">&#8220;I had to learn organizational skills&#8221;<\/h2><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-4 fusion-text-no-margin\" style=\"--awb-text-transform:none;--awb-margin-top:1rem;--awb-margin-right:0px;--awb-margin-bottom:0px;--awb-margin-left:0px;\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The qualitative responses from the respondents proved to be very insightful. Many of them spoke of increased effectiveness, better time management, and an enhanced ability to delegate tasks. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the study participants stated:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Children made me get my act together and become more efficient in life. This naturally led to me organizing my work better as well.&#8221; <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another observed:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;I don&#8217;t have time for the same level of oversight as before. I give people more freedom, and to my surprise, it works efficiently.&#8221; <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There were also mentions of greater empathy and patience towards employees:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;I think having a child made me softer; I have maternal instincts towards other people.&#8221;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the same time, respondents highlighted a lower tolerance for chaos, lack of commitment, or wasted time.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-4 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-two\" style=\"--awb-margin-top:2rem;--awb-margin-bottom:1rem;--awb-margin-top-small:10px;--awb-margin-right-small:0px;--awb-margin-bottom-small:10px;--awb-margin-left-small:0px;--awb-font-size:var(--awb-typography3-font-size);\"><h2 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left fusion-responsive-typography-calculated\" style=\"font-family:var(--awb-typography3-font-family);font-weight:var(--awb-typography3-font-weight);font-style:var(--awb-typography3-font-style);margin:0;letter-spacing:var(--awb-typography3-letter-spacing);text-transform:var(--awb-typography3-text-transform);font-size:1em;--fontSize:24;line-height:var(--awb-typography3-line-height);\">Are mothers somewhat organizational superheroes?<\/h2><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-5 fusion-text-no-margin\" style=\"--awb-text-transform:none;--awb-margin-top:1rem;--awb-margin-right:0px;--awb-margin-bottom:0px;--awb-margin-left:0px;\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of course, it is important to be cautious about romanticizing motherhood and expecting &#8220;superhuman multitasking&#8221; from women. However, it is hard to ignore that many competencies developed through parenthood have a tangible impact on managerial work. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because does daily functioning, balancing team responsibility, deadlines, family life logistics, and unpredictability, not develop:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mental resilience,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rapid decision-making,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">prioritization,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">flexibility,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">crisis management?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And should organizations really perceive potential motherhood solely as a &#8220;risk&#8221;?<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-5 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-two\" style=\"--awb-margin-top:2rem;--awb-margin-bottom:1rem;--awb-margin-top-small:10px;--awb-margin-right-small:0px;--awb-margin-bottom-small:10px;--awb-margin-left-small:0px;--awb-font-size:var(--awb-typography3-font-size);\"><h2 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left fusion-responsive-typography-calculated\" style=\"font-family:var(--awb-typography3-font-family);font-weight:var(--awb-typography3-font-weight);font-style:var(--awb-typography3-font-style);margin:0;letter-spacing:var(--awb-typography3-letter-spacing);text-transform:var(--awb-typography3-text-transform);font-size:1em;--fontSize:24;line-height:var(--awb-typography3-line-height);\">So why are there still so many concerns?<\/h2><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-6 fusion-text-no-margin\" style=\"--awb-text-transform:none;--awb-margin-top:1rem;--awb-margin-right:0px;--awb-margin-bottom:0px;--awb-margin-left:0px;\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite increasing social awareness, women of reproductive age still frequently face hidden biases:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;she&#8217;ll get pregnant soon,&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;she&#8217;ll be less available,&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;she won&#8217;t be as committed,&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;she has other priorities now.&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, the study results show that the experience of motherhood does not weaken managerial competencies but rather transforms them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perhaps the more important question is not:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>&#8220;Does motherhood affect work?&#8221;<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>&#8220;Why are we so rarely able to recognize the competencies that develop through diverse life experiences?&#8221;<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-6 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-two\" style=\"--awb-margin-top:2rem;--awb-margin-bottom:1rem;--awb-margin-top-small:10px;--awb-margin-right-small:0px;--awb-margin-bottom-small:10px;--awb-margin-left-small:0px;--awb-font-size:var(--awb-typography3-font-size);\"><h2 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left fusion-responsive-typography-calculated\" style=\"font-family:var(--awb-typography3-font-family);font-weight:var(--awb-typography3-font-weight);font-style:var(--awb-typography3-font-style);margin:0;letter-spacing:var(--awb-typography3-letter-spacing);text-transform:var(--awb-typography3-text-transform);font-size:1em;--fontSize:24;line-height:var(--awb-typography3-line-height);\">What does this mean for organizations?<\/h2><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-7 fusion-text-no-margin\" style=\"--awb-text-transform:none;--awb-margin-top:1rem;--awb-margin-right:0px;--awb-margin-bottom:0px;--awb-margin-left:0px;\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Professional development does not occur solely through training, promotions, and business experience. Sometimes, social and life roles shape it just as powerfully. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Motherhood does not have to mean withdrawal from leadership.
