Universal Design: Equitable Processes in Practice

DATE: May 18, 2026

TIME: 09:00 AM – 12:00 PM

OUR HOST WILL BE BP.

In many organizations, DEI initiatives still face resistance – often stemming from the belief that they only benefit selected groups.

So, how can we design processes that are simultaneously equitable, effective, and not perceived as favoring certain groups?

During the meeting, we will explore the concept of Universal Design as an approach that enables the creation of solutions that are accessible, transparent, and useful for all – without the need for exceptions or “special tracks.”

We will discuss how to design processes (e.g., recruitment, feedback, development) to reduce the risk of inequality already at the creation stage and to build a greater sense of fairness and trust within the organization.

What will we talk about?

  • Why DEI initiatives are sometimes perceived as supporting only selected groups, and what causes resistance to such initiatives
  • How to design processes that are simultaneously equitable, effective, and transparent – without creating a sense of favoritism
  • What Universal Design is and how it shifts the approach from “reacting to problems” to preventing them already at the design stage
  • How to identify barriers and non-obvious difficulties in organizational processes – before they become a real problem
  • How to analyze employee and candidate experiences to better understand diverse needs
  • How to apply Universal Design principles in practice and translate them into concrete actions within the organization
  • Why an approach based solely on individual adjustments is not always sufficient – and what works better
  • How Universal Design supports not only selected groups but all working individuals and entire organizations

The meeting will be led by Diversity Hub expert Magda Witkiewicz-Gavenda.
